10 tips for making better coffee in 2013

image

When it comes to coffee, there’s always something new to try. Check out our 10 tips for making better coffee in 2013:

  1. Grind only the beans you need because coffee starts losing quality almost immediately upon grinding. In the meantime, store your beans in an airtight container. (Avoid storing beans in the fridge, roasted beans are porous and readily take up moisture and food odours.)
  2. Use good water because nothing can ruin a cup of coffee like tap water with chlorine or off flavours. And make sure to avoid softened or distilled water, minerals in good water are essential.
  3. Learn something new and try out a different brewing method. Our website has simple instructions for the pour over, Chemex and French Press methods - you’ll be surprised how a different brew method can change your results.
  4. Reuse your coffee grounds - there are so many uses for all seasons, from adding nutrients to your garden, to cleaning your tub! Check out some of our tips here.
  5. Clean your coffee equipment at least monthly. Oils from coffee beans can build up contributing to bad tastes. A simple mixture of vinegar and water is all that’s needed.
  6. Shake up your coffee routine and try a Salt Spring Coffee monthly subscription. Every two weeks, we’ll deliver fresh, in-season coffee to you door!
  7. Be the office hero and suggest locally roasted organic Salt Spring Coffee for you and your co-workers to enjoy. (Check out our office coffee options.)
  8. Always bring a travel mug when you’re on the go. Changing consumer behaviour is the best solution to the problem of coffee cup waste. Do your part and encourage others to bring their own as well.
  9. Veer from your regular coffee choice and try something new. Our in-season coffees are available for a limited time. Experience exceptional taste profiles and coffee at the peak of its powers.
  10. Spend more time with family and friends enjoying your favourite cup.
